Overall the WhistlePig PiggyBack Rye 6 Years has a nice sweet profile that complements the dominant rustic and spicey notes. Good all around, it's a versatile whiskey that works equally well in cocktails or a glass by itself. I think it's about $10 overpriced, but compared to the rest of their lineup it's a bargain.

In the summer of 2018, the late, legendary Dave Pickerell returned to our barrelhouses with one mission in mind: create the best Rye Whiskey for use in the world’s best cocktails. He knew he wanted a mashbill of 100% rye to capture a full-flavored spice. He just needed to land on the ideal age statement and bottling strength to realize his dream. It didn’t take long for him to arrive at perfection: a rye aged not less than six years, carrying a strength of precisely 96.56 proof. A sturdy thread of cinnamon and citrus binds it all together. Stir or shake as you choose. But always sip in good company. It's all sourced whiskey from Canada, bottled at a very specific 96.56 proof — in honor of Pickerell's year of birth, 1956. The whiskey was created with cocktails in mind, but, as always, our review looks at the unadulterated product. Today, WhistlePig Farm spans across 500 acres of rolling hills in Shoreham, Vermont, where it's home to one of the world's finest rye whiskeys. But it all began with a 2009 purchase of Canadian blending whiskey to be rebottled back home in the Green Mountain State.
