Michter’s Small Batch Bourbon 750ml
"A nose of pit fruits, honey, caramel and vanilla gives way to the palate of corn, raisins and astringents. The finish finds cinnamon and butterscotch with just a bit of lingering sour astringency.
How old is Michter's small batch?
Produced in very small batches, typically twenty-four barrels or fewer per batch and aged for around eight years, Michter's US*1 really is a great Bourbon. Teasing with caramel, vanilla and dried fruit notes, this is a very pleasant drink to both spend time with and to enjoy through the night.

The history of Michter's starts with John Shenk, a Pennsylvania farmer who founded his own distillery in 1753. It was purchased by Abraham Bomberger in the mid-1800s and continued until Prohibition when it, like most other distilleries in the USA, closed. It reopened after the repeal and in the 1950s the distillery changed its name: owner Lou Forman combined the names of his children, Michael and Peter, to create Michter's. By the late 1980s the distillery was in disrepair and closed, but in the 1990s modern Michter's was born. Production moved to Kentucky and a new era of whiskey making began.
Although based on a historic brand, Michter's as it is today is relatively young. Company president Joseph Magliocco acquired the trademark in 1997, after it had been abandoned since the original, Pennsylvania-based Michter's distillery closed in 1990, and re-launched it as a Kentucky-sourced brand in the early 2000s.
Michter's is produced in two facilities: their original Michters distillery situated in Shively, as well as their second Fort Nelson distillery located in the heart of Louisville that was salvaged and renovated in 2012, opening in 2019.
2 ounces Michter's US*1 Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey, 1 teaspoon sugar, 3 dashes bitters, 1 orange twist
Combine the sugar and bitters in an old-fashioned glass. I add a teaspoon or so to help dissolve the sugar. Pound it gently with a muddler or the end of a wooden citrus reamer.
Add the bourbon, stir, add on large ice cube and garnish with a twist.
