FINISH Tart apple crispness gives way to a long smoky finish full of toasted marshmallow, chocolate and graham cracker sweetness.
Brown–Forman Corporation
Old Forester is a brand of Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey produced by the Brown–Forman Corporation. It has been on the market continuously for longer than any other bourbon (approximately 150 years as of 2020), and was the first bourbon sold exclusively in sealed bottles.
The third release in the Old Forester Whiskey Row series, this 115 proof expression “celebrates the brand’s continued distillation during Prohibition. For 13 years, the production, transport and sale of alcohol was strictly prohibited. However, Old Forester was granted a permit to continue distilling on Louisville’s Whiskey Row. The 115 proof expression represents a barrel sample that company president Owsley Brown said I would have batched at the beginning of Prohibition."
The Volstead Act of 1920 which initiated Prohibition in the USA granted permits to six distillers in Kentucky to continue to bottle bourbon for medicinal purposes. Through one of these permits, Old Forester continued to be produced as medicinal whiskey on Louisville's famed Whiskey Row.
Is the Old Forester 1920 worth it?
Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Edition is a delicious bourbon with a lot of character, but it isn't quite complex or interesting enough to receive a “Top Shelf” rating. The nose is very hot at first, spewing doughy alcohol and musty corn. After it settles, I finally get the 1920's rich, sweet, and savory traits.
Is the Old Forester 1920 rare?
Old Forester 1920 palate: “Completely different approach. ... Focused on a couple areas of the palate. It's really intense.” Verdict: Rare Breed, for its complexity on the palate.
