What is the mash bill for Old Forester?
A historic recipe, acquired in 1940 by Owsley Brown I, Old Forester Rye features a mash bill of 65% Rye, 20% Malted Barley, and 15% Corn. Such a high proportion of barley allows for a fully natural fermentation process, forgoing the need for artificial enzymes commonly found in high rye mash bills.
Do they still make Old Forester whiskey?
2018. Old Forester Distillery returns home to Whisky Row and opens at 119 W. Main Street, housed in the same building that the brand called home from 1882 – 1919. Old Forester distillery is the only downtown distillery which houses an active cooperage, charring barrels in the same facility where spirits are being aged.

In last month’s American Whiskey Masters blind-tasting competition, a total of nine Master medals were awarded to top-quality expressions that were assessed by a panel of independent experts, and chaired by The Spirits Business.
The Bourbon – No Age Statement round saw two of these Masters go to US drinks producer Brown-Forman for its Old Forester 1870 Original Batch and Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond.
One judge said of the Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond: “I got a lot of spice and dryness at first, then a light fruitiness afterwards that lifted it into a different dimension. That created a harmonious journey that worked well.”
The expression is the second release in the Old Forester Whiskey Row Series and was created to honour the US Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897.
Brown-Forman also scored Gold medals for its Old Forester Rye Whiskey and Birthday Bourbon during the competition.
